I mentioned earlier that when I came here I was amazed by the Singaporean food and especially verity of it. This verity you can best find inHawker center of Makan places. These places are open air facilities, with round tables and fixed chairs, and all abound you have small stalls where you can try different food. From Japanese, Indonesian, Malayan, Singaporean, Vietnamese and food from all the region. These places look like this
This is a place where you can sit and enjoy food. I must admit it does look much, but the quality of food is excellent, I can say it is a restaurant quality and you pay less to eat it and do it outside with local people. i must mention that it is self service based and you must order and wait for food in stall like this one
As it is shown on picture you can see menu and prices clearly before you order your dish. Sometimes there is a queue in front, sometimes not it all depends of time of the day. You order, pay and after that look for place to sit, usually under some fan if possible. I know that you are used to go to restaurant and order one dish, salad and maybe desert, if you are not on diet. I expected something like this here, but no. You usually go from stall to stall and pick everything you want to try, and especially if you are coming with a group of friends, then there is usually a lot of different dishes and everybody shares. I liked that immediately, because you can try different stuff and eat a little bit of everything. Table looks usually like this
As you look at the picture, you get watery mouth, is it not? And now imagine that you can eat like this every day. Heaven, I tell you heaven for food lovers. You also have stalls where you can order drinks, coffee, and sweets. usually in this weather you order some freshly squeezed juice. There is nothing better to have some natural juice and sit down to cool down a little. And let me tell you about coffee. The way they prepare kopi is learned and requires skill. They have a big pots where they cook it and how they prepare it depends of which one you order. My favorite is Kopi C, this is coffee with condensed milk and sugar. I saw the process dozen of times here. They pour the coffee from that big pot, add some hot water, probably because of density of a coffee and add milk and sugar. It is delicious! You also have Kopi O- looks like black coffee and others it all depends what you like but be sure to try. It is really good coffee and it would be shame to miss it. they serve it in small cups like this
You also have Teh, tea with milk and for both beverages you have cold variants. So you can enjoy more in hot weather. But nothing comes close to cold beer in this weather, and it can be good appetizer. I really enjoy it, especially Tiger. It is domestic brand and when I first came here it was love on first sip. They serve it in buckets full of ice, and there are always ladies going abound and asking people if they want some beer. Look at this picture, is it like heaven
And this is just two, imagine 5 inside. Really nice. And how can you resist really, if all this is at every corner, mall, everywhere. The only way is to enjoy it, because there are not many opportunities and places where you can all this and many more. So
Look at all this! It is simply amazing that you can find this quality and tasty food on the street. Every time I go out I am amazed by some new discovery. I am still to tell you and describe you some of my favorite dishes, so this is a frame for picture yet to come
